Improve your English

I have been teaching digital arts and media to students of all ages since 2004; however, I am now also trained to teach English as a second language and am taking on students. I have had a lifelong fascination with language and after spending time volunteering at a local ESL class working with students both in groups and one-to-one, I knew teaching English was something I wanted to do. I gained my CELTA qualification in December 2020 and taught adult students at Pre-intermediate and Upper Intermediate level during my course. I also completed additional training on teaching English for exams in December 2021.

*COVID-19 UPDATE* – I am currently still not taking on in-person tuition work, I hope to resume in 2022 but in the meantime, I am open to bookings for online tutoring.

I currently have slots available to coach adult ESL learners living in the UK who wish to improve their English to enhance their career or study prospects, to enable them to more easily access essential services, or for social reasons/cultural enjoyment. I help committed students become confident and effective English communicators both socially and professionally by advancing their verbal and written fluency, via online one to one lessons over Zoom or Skype. Just get in touch using the form below letting me know what you’re looking for, and we’ll arrange a time to chat.

Think my ESL tuition might be you but you’re not sure? Here’s a little more information about the kind of student who I think would benefit most from my help:

The problem you’re currently experiencing is that you have difficulty expressing yourself as clearly as you would like, causing you to be misunderstood by colleagues, clients and people in your community, preventing you fully integrating into your workplace and wider UK society. You hear unfamiliar words and phrases that you have not come across in your English studies. You cannot communicate as effectively as you need to, and face challenges getting the results you want in your life and career.

What scares you most is getting stuck in a rut – you fear getting passed over for career opportunities and being held back in lower-paying positions. You worry about the consequences of saying or writing something incorrectly, or misunderstanding more specialised vocabulary and expressions. You may experience feelings of frustration, isolation and worry that you may never feel like you truly belong.

With my help, your clients, work colleagues and wider community will understand you clearly and you will be able to form much more effective relationships here. You will easily communicate your thoughts and ideas, expressing yourself the way you want to. You will grow your knowledge of both business and informal words and phrases to better understand those around you.

You will improve your career prospects, enabling you to better support yourself/your family. You will develop better personal and professional relationships and feel at home in your community. You will feel proud that you invested in yourself to become the best you can be.
